Since 1960, AML has been hard at work keeping Toronto's cars safely on the road. It was in September of that year that Art French, a young, talented mechanic and his wife Alice, a trained and experienced book-keeper, put their names together to coin the title for their dream: Artenal Motors. Integrity, hard work and long hours were the backbone of their new business, providing the means to raise their five children, as well as earn the loyalty and respect of their increasing clientele.

Since that time, both Art & Alice have passed away, but their dream - now also known as AML Auto Service - has evolved into a small but modern corporation and a leader in both customer service and automotive service. We utilize high-tech diagnostic and repair equipment, extensive technical databases provided by Motor All-Data and Mitchell and continuous up-date training to ensure our ability to accurately diagnose and repair the modern automobile. Complete service records, coupled with regular service reminders, help our customers maintain their new or old vehicle in top shape and at the same time preserve both the vehicle's warranty and its value. Our newsletter helps our customers understand their vehicles better and provides a means to update them on events and legislation concerning their vehicles and of changes we may be making within our company.

Now owned by the next generation Art French and his wife Rica, the same honesty, integrity and hard work remain the backbone of AML. The use of top-quality parts augments our own commitment to quality workmanship and we provide a 1-year, 20,000 km warranty on all repairs done by us, as recommended, to back up that commitment.

A six bay building at 126 Laird Drive is home to AML Auto Service, with ample space for offices, waiting area and emission testing in addition to vehicle service. We believe in performing our own repairs as much as possible, subletting very little of our work to outside sources. As a result, we operate one of the best-equipped independent repair shops in the city. Equipment includes on- and off-car brake lathes, computerized alignment and wheel balancing units, rim-clamp tire changer, transmission, coolant and power steering flush machines, digital two and four channel scopes, scan tools to cover most North American, Asian and European vehicles, and more.
We provide a spacious, comfortable waiting area with a variety of popular magazines, newspaper, television and even a salt water aquarium. We are also within walking distance of a variety of shopping outlets where you can find Home Depot, Best Buy, Future Shop, Pet Smart, Canadian Tire, Staples and others.
For customers who need to drop off their vehicles outside of regular operating hours, we provide a convenient key drop box (pictured at right) beside our delivery door on the parking lot side of the building. Inside the top section are envelopes and a pen to enter pertinent information including name, phone numbers and work requested. We ask that these be filled out and signed and that contact information is included. The keys can then be put in the envelope and dropped in through the opening in the upper half of the box where the envelope was found.

At AML, we believe that a job well done is a job that will stand the test of time. A job well done is one performed with patience, using the right tools and using the best available parts. To this end, our standard parts and labour warranty is 1 year or 20,000 kilometers, whichever occurs first on all repairs we perform as recommended and using our recommended parts, supplied by AML. Naturally, this is conditional upon the vehicle being used for normal driving, under normal driving conditions. In most cases where second line parts or other options may be chosen, parts and labour are guaranteed for a period of 3 months or 5,000 kilometers, whichever occurs first. Some exceptions may apply, such as in the case of extended or lifetime manufacturers' warranties, which we honour as long as they remain in effect. Since warranty coverage varies from one part or manufacturer to another, it is important to confirm warranty coverage when having repairs performed.

Owner & President Art French is a veteran automotive technician with more than 30 years experience. He achieved inter-provincial certification in 1978 and has since proven himself through ASE certification as a master technician and engine performance specialist; was granted honorary Air Care certification by British Columbia's Air Care program after taking part in a friendly skill-testing competition between Ontario and BC techs in the summer of 1997, while a member of Emissions Ontario; was among the first group of repair technicians to achieve accreditation in Ontario's Drive Clean; was a regional finalist in AC Delco's Technician of the Millennium competitions in 2001 and 2003; and has been a guest on television & radio auto repair call-in shows.

Service Manager Richard Rikkonen joined AML in April, 2000 as a service advisor, eager to use his previous dealership training and experience in a place where the emphasis is more towards benefit to the customer than on sales. Since that time, Richard has earned the respect and loyalty of both co-workers and clients, and has proven to be instrumental in the continued growth and success of AML. In 2003, Richard achieved certification as a service consultant in the first such test offered by ASE, further demonstarting his knowledge and ability.

Service Advisor Jason Collette represents yet another generation in the family business. Art's nephew started in 2006 sweeping floors and helping out. He quickly proved himself to be a valuable asset to the business, working as an emissions inspector, organizing incoming parts and now as a serivice advisor.

Owner/Secretary-Treasurer Rica French looks after the book-keeping and financial end of the business. She also brings many years of customer service experience to share with our team and is also an ASE certified service consultant.
